“San Francisco State has a strong tradition,” said GCU coach Ann Pierson. “We haven’t played them in a couple years, but they always put out a talented team. We’ll have to play our best game.”
GCU went 4-0 against the Gators in 2010. Two of the games were one-run contests and the largest margin of victory was three. Among San Francisco State’s five wins is a victory over then-No. 10 UC San Diego.
Grand Canyon had won seven in a row prior to dropping the final game of the Academy of Art series, 4-3 in eight innings. It was the longest win streak since finishing the 2010 regular season with eight straight victories.
The recent success has been noted nationwide. GCU, for the first time this season, is among those receiving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
