In a three-way tie for first place in the Pacific West Conference, Grand Canyon will face one of the teams it’s tied with in a four-game series Monday and Tuesday at Stapleton-Pierson Stadium.
GCU and Hawai’i Pacific begin their series with a doubleheader beginning at noon Monday. Tuesday’s twinbill will also begin at noon.
The Antelopes are wrapping up a 10-game homestand and are 5-1 after winning three of four against Hawai’i Hilo and sweeping a doubleheader Saturday against Chaminade.
Both GCU and HPU are 17-9 overall. The Antelopes are 8-2 in the PacWest, while the Sea Warriors are 11-5 in league play. California Baptist is also in first. The Lancers are 24-5 overall and 10-4 in the PacWest.
“HPU is always good,” said Grand Canyon coach Ann Pierson. “They’re a complete team, good in all areas and they’re very experienced and well-coached.”
The teams split two games in Honolulu last season.
“For us, we have to slow the game down, but continue to be aggressive and do things on our terms,” Pierson said.
