Grand Canyon (18-10, 9-3) bounced back from a Game 1 loss to split Monday’s Pacific West Conference doubleheader with Hawai’i Pacific (18-10, 12-6) at Stapleton-Pierson Stadium.

Lauren Regester highlighted the 10-6 Game 2 win with a second-inning grand slam. GCU lost the first game 9-1.
The teams, who came into the four-game series in a three-way tie with California Baptist for the top spt in the
PacWest, finish the series Tuesday with a noon doubleheader.
“Lauren gave us a big boost,” said GCU coach Ann Pierson.
The Antelopes had 17 hits in the second game.
Kelsey Barak had a pair of doubles and went 3-for-5. Second baseman
Vanessa Chavez had three hits, including a double.
GCU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first.
Kara Holtorf reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Barak’s first double.
Nicole Upshaw singled in Barak and later scored on a Chavez double.
Regester’s slam came in the second. It was preceded by singles from
Kayla Henry,
Claire Zampini and Holtorf.
“(After the first game), we needed more of everything in the second game and we got it,” said Pierson.
Kiki Sepulveda picked up her fourth straight win and threw a complete game.
HPU came back with two runs each in the third, sixth and seventh.
Grand Canyon added two more in the fourth.
Stephanie Smith led off with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt from Holtorf. She scored on a Barak single. Regester and Upshaw singled to load the bases. Another single, from Chavez, scored Barak.
In the seventh, GCU scored one more. Zampini singled and moved to second on a ground out. She scored on a Holtorf single.
Seven players had multi-hit games. Along with Barak and Chavez, Holtorf, Regester, Upshaw, Henry and Zampini each had two hits. Barak also had two hits in the opener and upped her batting average to .436. She has the team’s longest current hitting streak at nine games. Regester has hit in six in a row.
In the opener, GCU’s lone run came on a seventh inning pinch-hit homer from Upshaw.
“In game one, they just beat us and took it to us,” Pierson said. “We had good energy, they just beat us.”
