Former Grand Canyon University men’s soccer player Matheau (Dupe) Hall has signed with the LA Blues of the United Soccer League (USL). Hall was a member of the GCU soccer program in 2007 and 2008.
“I am always excited when a young man that has played in our program moves on to the next level,” said head coach Petar Draksin. “A lot of soccer players and athletes in general, have a dream to play professionally. There are a few things that are needed to get to that next level: god given talent, passion for the game, sacrifice to never give up even though it might take a few years and just as important, to be in the right place at the right time.”
“It was a lot of hard work and persistence,” said Hall. “It just proves that if you work towards something that you want and never give up, good things can come from it.”
Hall played in 33 games, including 30 starts, over his two seasons with GCU. He was named Honorable Mention All-PacWest in 2008 and primarily served as a defender.
“I am very proud of Dupe because he has been fighting to reach his goal for three years, he never gave up and I love to see that attitude,” added Draksin. “He definitely has the three things I mentioned above and I am looking forward to following his success with the LA Blues of the USL Soccer League. The beauty of it is that it is not too far away, so we can drive to Fullerton, California to see him play.”
At Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he was a two-time All-State and All-Region selection and was named All-Beach District. Hall also played for the Olympic Development Program and represented the United States in the Mediterranean International Tournament in Spain.
“The last player that played professionally from our program was David Hague with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer (MLS) now,” said Draksin. “He had a two-year stint with them. David was a great player for us and had the opportunity to spend some time at the next level.”
“I’m looking forward to everything that comes along with being a pro,” added Hall. “The learning experience, the ups and downs and being in a professional atmosphere, all of that excites me.”
