Grand Canyon University women’s basketball player
Maylinn Smith was named Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games contested Feb. 20-26.
In helping the team to wins over BYU-Hawai’i, Chaminade and Academy of Art last week, Smith ranked second with 4.0 three-pointers made per game, 20.3 points per game and 3.7 steals, fourth in three-point percentage (63.2 percent, 12-for-19) and tied for eighth with 4.0 assists per game.
Smith also shot 50.0 percent (20-for-40) from the floor, including an 81.8 percentage (9-for-11) from the charity stripe.
Smith tied the PacWest single-game record and established a new school record when she drained eight three-pointers in GCU’s 67-49 win over Academy of Art on Feb. 25.

Jallisa Butler has garnered the honor twice: Dec. 5-11 and Jan. 16-22.
GCU will next be in action when they host Cal Baptist tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix.
