Smith Named PacWest Player of the Week

Grand Canyon University women’s basketball player Maylinn Smith was named Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games contested Feb. 20-26.
In helping the team to wins over BYU-Hawai’i, Chaminade and Academy of Art last week, Smith ranked second with 4.0 three-pointers made per game, 20.3 points per game and 3.7 steals, fourth in three-point percentage (63.2 percent, 12-for-19) and tied for eighth with 4.0 assists per game.
Smith also shot 50.0 percent (20-for-40) from the floor, including an 81.8 percentage (9-for-11) from the charity stripe.
Smith tied the PacWest single-game record and established a new school record when she drained eight three-pointers in GCU’s 67-49 win over Academy of Art on Feb. 25.
This is the third weekly award for the ‘Lopes, as Jallisa Butler has garnered the honor twice: Dec. 5-11 and Jan. 16-22.
GCU will next be in action when they host Cal Baptist tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix.
