Tuning up for the upcoming RMAC/Super Region IV Championships, nationally-ranked Grand Canyon faces two of the top teams in the nation in dual meets at Fort Hays, Kan. Today.
GCU, ranked No. 7 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association and No. 6 in the Basford poll, takes on Nebraska-Kearney, No. 4 in the NWCA and No. 2 in Basford, and Fort Hays State, No. 15 in the NWCA and No. 9 in Basford today.
The Antelopes won a school-record 18th dual meet Sunday against Chadron State and are 18-4 on the season. They take on UNK at 2 p.m. and Fort Hays State at 4 p.m.
The matches will determine the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season champion. UNK is 5-0 in RMAC duals and 9-3 overall. GCU is 7-1 in the RMAC. Fort Hays is 7-3 and 3-3.
GCU was 9-0 in RMAC duals last season and won the regular-season title.

A combined 15 wrestlers are ranked individually by either the NWCA or Basford, including all three in the 149 class.
GCU 149-pounder
Bobby Ward, who has won 18 straight matches and is 28-5 on the season, is No. 8 in the NWCA poll and No. 5 in Basford. He’s in the spotlight with Fort Hays State’s Mitchell Means (No.2/No.4) and UNK’s Raufeon Stotts (No. 3/No. 3).
Ward is 22-1 since moving down to 149.
All three wrestlers in the 285 category are also receiving recognition. GCU’s
Jordan Johnson, who leads the team with seven falls, is 26-2 and ranked No. 3 in both polls. UNK’s Kevin Barrett is No. 4 in Basford and Fort Hays’ Justin Glenn is honorable mention in the Basford rankings.
Five weight classes feature the No. 1 or No. 2 ranked wrestler in the nation. UNK’s Dalton Jensen (141) and Fort Hays’s Walker Clarke (184) are No. 1 in their respective classes. Along with Means, UNK’s T.J. Hepburn (157) and Joey Wilson (165) are ranked second.
GCU two-time All-American
Victor Carazo is No. 3 in Basford at 174 and No. 5 in the NWCA. Carazo is 18-1 on the season and leads the team with eight wins by major decision.
GCU has four ranked wrestlers.
Kyle McCrite, the Antelopes leader in wins with 29, is fifth at 125.
There are nationally-ranked wrestlers in each class but 197, which features one of GCU’s “Big Five”, junior
Celic Bell, who is at the top of the class. He is 17-3 on the season with five wins by fall and seven by major decision.
The RMAC/Region IV Championships will also be in Fort Hays, Kan. on Feb. 25.
