Grand Canyon University’s
Sharles Simon has been named the PacWest Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year for the 2012 season.
Simon placed second at the conference meet and punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships with his sixth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional. There he posted a time of 32.22.63 on the 10k route located on the Kahuku Golf Course in Kahuku, Hawai’i.
Simon will run in the NCAA Championships on Nov. 17 in Joplin, Missouri.
Teammate
Brandon Kocmoud was named to the All-PacWest 3rd Team.
On the women’s side,
Pauline Muiruri and
Kelsi Klotter were tabbed for the All-PacWest 2nd Team. Muiruri was the highest-placed Antelope on the women’s side during the conference championships with her 10th-place time of 19:21.60 on the 5k women's route. Klotter was just 1.3 seconds behind Muiruri and claimed 11th.
GCU’s
Megan Rivera was named to the All-PacWest 3rd Team.
Both the men’s and women’s teams finished third at the conference championships, while the women placed 17
th at the regionals.
