Grand Canyon looks to end CSU San Bernardino’s streak of region tournament wins Friday when the two nationally-ranked teams meet in an NCAA Division II Volleyball West Region Semi-Final at Cannon Activities Center in Laie, HI.
The Antelopes are ranked No. 20 in the nation and seeded No. 2 in the tournament. They’re coming off a 3-2 win over San Francisco State in the quarterfinals Thursday, improving to 24-5 on the season.
The Coyotes have won 13 straight region tournament matches and four straight region titles. They are ranked No. 22 in the nation and improved to 23-8 with a 3-2 victory over Central Washington Thursday.
Both GCU and CSUSB were down 2-1 in quarterfinal matches.
Friday’s contest is the second meeting of the season. GCU beat CSUSB 3-1 at GCU Arena Sept. 1 in the GCU Holiday Classic. The Coyotes are the defending NCAA II runners-up.
“We’re both different teams than we were three months ago,” said GCU coach Kris Naber.
GCU won the initial meeting 23-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-12, holding the Coyotes to a .045 attack percentage. Sophomore outside hitter

Janae Giles had seven kills and 14 digs, while senior middle blocker
Shelby Taylor had six block assists.
CSUSB was led by setter Camille Smith with 32 assists and 15 digs, while middle blocker Mercedes Winchester had 13 kills.
GCU leads the all-time series 14-11.
Friday’s winner will advance to Saturday’s regional championship to be played at 10 p.m. Arizona time.
