The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team opened with a 17-0 run to start the game and went on to defeat Northern State, 75-61, tonight at the Disney Classic in Anaheim, Calif.

The win evens GCU’s overall record at 1-1, while NSU falls to 0-2.
The Antelopes, who have struggled from the floor through the exhibition season and last night’s season opening two-point loss to No. 7 Winona State, shot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) in the first half and went into the break with a 22-point lead at 45-23.
GCU forced nine turnovers in the opening 20 minutes to lead by as many as 24 in the half.
The Wolves used an 18-7 run to open the second half to close within 11, but GCU was able to answer the run with a 13-6 run of their own and push the lead back to 18.
The Antelopes never trailed in the game and were red-hot for the 3-point line, making 11-of-22 shots.
Senior transfer
Joshua Lowery dominated the game with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Lowery knocked down 7-of-8 shots in his 29 minutes.
Steve Morin came off the bench to make 4-of-5 three pointers to finish with 12 points. He buried three 3-pointers in the Antelopes’ critical 13-6 run.
Killian Larson led the ‘Lopes on the glass, hauling down nine boards to go with his nine points.
Justin Foreman had six rebounds.
Grand Canyon will have to sleep quickly, as they face SW Minnesota State tomorrow at 12:15 (AZ time) at the Anaheim Convention Center in their final game of the Disney Classic. SMSU was just outside of the NABC Preseason Top-25 poll, receiving 42 points.
Following the game the Antelopes will return home and open the second season of GCU Arena on Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. against Western New Mexico.
