With 10 different players getting kills and nine getting digs, No. 16 Grand Canyon’s balanced attack led to a 3-0 Pacific West Conference victory over Dominican University of California (5-12, 3-6) at Antelope Gymnasium Saturday.
GCU (17-3, 6-3) won by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-17.

Kaitlynn Ausmus had a match-high nine. Sophomore outside hitter
Hayleigh Friemoth had seven. Middle hitters
Kristen Johannsen,
Shelby Taylor and
Lanie Muys had six kills each. Taylor had a team-best .455 (6-1-11) hitting percentage, followed by Johannsen (6-2-10, .400) and Muys (6-2-11, .364).
Ausmus hit .280 on 25 attempts with just two errors.
Aliyyah Abdullah had her first three kills as an Antelope and hit .333 on six tries.
“We got a high level of contributions from a lot of players and remained consistent throughout the match,” said GCU coach Kris Naber.

Mackenzie Phelps had a match-best 16 digs. Friemoth added 13. Senior setter
Kristen Preach and senior defensive specialist
Sara Bowden had seven and six, respectively. Junior
Caelen Hiller had four block assists. Johannsen had three and Taylor added two. Friemoth also had two service aces.
Preach had 37 assists.
“We controlled the match on our side of the court better than we have in previous matches,” said Naber.
Grand Canyon led from start to finish in the first two sets and took the lead for good in the third at 5-4.
GCU hit .389 in the first set with 16 kills and only two errors in 36 attempts.
GCU continues its five-match homestand with a 6 p.m. Tuesday contest at Antelope Gymnasium against Arizona Christian.
