Grand Canyon University’s
Buddy Turner has been named the Counsilman-Hunsaker National Collegiate Division II Swimmer of the Week, for the week ending Jan. 11, as announced by CollegeSwimming.com.
Turner had two individual wins and two relay wins to help GCU to a 146-116 victory over top-ranked UC San Diego on Jan.7 in San Diego, Calif. He won the 50 free (20.65) and the 100 fly (49.57). Turner also helped lead the 400 medley relay (3:21.72) and 200 free relay (1:23.18) squads to victories in the dual meet. All of Turner’s swims were NCAA B cut standards.
Turner, in his first season with the Antelopes, has recorded three individual school records and participated in three relay school record swims.
Turner is the second Grand Canyon swimmer to win this prestigious award, as
Ivan Nechunaev captured the national honor last season.
The men’s and women’s teams will return to competition on Jan. 21, when they travel to La Mirada, Calif. for duals with Biola.
