Four Runners Earn PacWest Honors

The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s cross country teams had four runners named to the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll for their performances in the George Kyte Classic on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Flagstaff.
The women’s team had three runners earn honors, Justine Peterson, Julia Wild, and Hannah Fishback. Peterson finished first for the ‘Lopes with a 20:52.6 5K time, placing 26th overall. Julia Wild came in second for the ‘Lopes finishing the course in 21:12.1 to place 28th with Hannah Fishback just behind with a time of 21:29.9 to place 30th.
Dixie State College’s Rachel Young was named the first women’s runner of the week for the season for her performance at the George Kyte Classic. She ran an 18:12.3 5K to finish 10th overall.
Senior Kipkorir Mutai was the only men’s runner to earn the honor after finishing 13th at the George Kyte Classic with a 27:53.1 8K time. Mutai finished first among GCU runners.
Academy of Art’s Amos Maru was named the first men’s runner of the week for the 2011 season after running a 25:37 8K at the University of San Francisco Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 3.
