Junior forward/defender Julia Anglin (Goodyear, AZ , Desert Edge, Scottsdale Community College) and sophomore midfielder Jessica Scarpati (Las Vegas, NV, Shadow Ridge) scored second-half goals to lead the Grand Canyon University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Pacific West Conference rival Dixie State College in the conference opener for both teams tonight at the GCU Soccer Field in Phoenix.
The Antelopes improved to 2-3-1 overall, 1-0-0 in the PacWest. The Red Storm dropped to 2-5-0, 0-1-0.
Anglin scored the game-winner in the 55th minute when Dixie State senior goalkeeper April Beck left the box and Anglin got by her and rolled the ball into the right side of the net. It was her first goal of the season.
Scarpati made the score 2-0 in the 86th minute when she headed in a corner kick by sophomore forward Veronica Nikas (Scottsdale, AZ, Veritas Prep HS). It was Scarpati's first goal this year.
