Grand Canyon University senior first baseman/third baseman
Montana Lucas (Glendale, AZ/Cactus, Phoenix College) has been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Player of the Week.
The honor, for games played April 4-10, was announced this morning by the NFCA office in Starkville, Miss.
In a four-game sweep of Dominican University of California last weekend, Lucas went 14-for-17 (.824) with four home runs, three doubles, 17 RBI and eight runs scored. She had a .824 on-base percentage and a 1.706 slugging percentage.
In the final game of the series, a 25-9 win for the Antelopes, Lucas set new school records with five hits and nine RBI. The old school record of four hits in a game was set numerous times, most recently by Kelli Bridges on April 25, 2010 vs. Dominican. The former school record for RBI of eight was established by Tracy Lubken on March 30, 2009 against BYU-Hawai'i.
For the year, Lucas is batting .370 with a team-high seven home runs and 33 RBI.
GCU (17-18 overall, 9-7 Pacific West Conference) will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday against Dixie State (22-9, 13-3) in St. George, Utah.
