The Grand Canyon University women's soccer team scored in the second minute of tonight’s match with Notre Dame de Namur and never looked back, winning 4-1, at GCU Soccer Field in Phoenix.
The win was the third in a row for the Antelopes and improved their overall record to 6-4-2, 5-1-1 in the Pacific West Conference. NDNU fell to 3-7-2, 2-2-2 in the PacWest.
Jessica Lincoln opened the scoring for GCU, scoring off a feed from
Marina Nesic in only the second minute of the game. For Lincoln, it was her second goal of the season.
Grand Canyon opened a 2-0 lead on an own goal in the 15
th minute.
The Argonauts cracked the scoreboard for their only time of the contest, when Sarah Biser scored an unassisted goal in the 19
th minute. Bisner, the leading scorer for NDNU, now has six goals this season.
Nesic tallied her ninth goal of the season with an unassisted goal in the 58
th minute to give the Antelopes a 3-1 cushion.
Julia Anglin scored a goal in the 85
th minute on an assist from
Caitlin Cartwright to cap off the win for GCU. It was Anglin’s third goal of the season and Cartwright’s first point of the year.
Stephanie Phillips and
Cat Lena each played a half in goal for the Antelopes. Phillips had one save, the only one of the night for GCU.
GCU out shot NDNU, 16-5, and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Grand Canyon will take its perfect home record into its next match on Oct. 20 against Academy of Art at the GCU Soccer Field. The two squads will play again on Oct. 22, also in Phoenix.
