Julio Zuniga (Mexico City, Mexico/Trevor Browne, Arizona State University) highlighted the brand new Grand Canyon University track & field team's performance in the second day of the Cherry & Silver Invite today at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
It was the first meet ever for GCU's track & field team.
Hodges got the day started for the Antelopes by posting a time of 7.49 seconds and finishing third in the preliminary heat of the women's 60-meter dash. She hit the provisional mark and missed the automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships by 4/100ths of a second. Her time is the second-fastest in the nation in Division II this year.

Brianne Kee (Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) ran a time of 7.87 seconds in the same event and finished 19th.
Hodges false started in the finals.
Bain ran the preliminaries of the men's 60-meter dash in 6.82 seconds and won the heat, and then improved to 6.77 in the finals and finished second. He hit the provisional mark and missed the auto qualifier by 2/100ths of a second. He was the top collegiate performer in the event, and his time is the fourth-fastest in the nation this season.
Sipes finished the preliminaries of the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.02 seconds, and repeated that performance in the finals. He hit the provisional mark and also was the top collegiate finisher. His time is the third-fastest in the country this year.
The winner of the event was former UCLA All-American Kevin Craddock, who now runs for Nike. During his time at UCLA, Cradddock earned All-America honors his freshman season in the hurdles (2006, eighth), set the school record in the indoor 60-meter hurdles (7.73), won two Pac-1o high hurdles crowns and the 2008 West Region 110-meter hurdles title. He ended his career tied for second all-time in the 110m hurdles (13.46).
The 4 x 400 Relay team posted with a time of 3:18.57 and finished fourth in the event. It missed the provisional mark by 7/100ths of a second.
"I'm very pleased with the first meet of the season," GCU Head Coach Tom Flood said. "Hopefully we opened some eyes."
