ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Grand Canyon University's women's volleyball team dropped its season opener, 3-1, to CSU Stanislaus in the Seawolf Spike Invitational at Sonoma State University Friday.
It was the first of two matches played Friday. GCU took on San Francisco State later in the day.
The 'Lopes lost by set scores of 26-24, 17-25, 25-16, 27-25.
Sophomore
Erica Ehlo (Spokane, WA, Lewis and Clark) had 10 kills, 20 digs and two block assists. In her first collegiate match,
Kaitlynn Ausmus (Glendale, AZ, Deer Valley) had 14 kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore setter
Kristen Preach (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) added eight kills, eight digs and 33 assists. Junior libero
Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope) had a team-high 24 digs.
The 'Lopes two seniors were big contributors.
Tommyka Henry (Phoenix, AZ, Alhambra) had six kills, three block assists and one solo block.
Megan Toth (Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia) had 14 digs.
GCU continues play in the invitational on Saturday. It takes on Chico State at 9 a.m. and host Sonoma State, ranked No. 21 in the nation, at 1:30 p.m.
