Grand Canyon looks to improve its homecourt record to 3-0 and finish the pre-Pacific West Conference schedule on a high note against Embry-Riddle Friday at Antelope Gymnasium.
GCU (3-7) defeated visiting Southwestern Tuesday and is hoping to carry that momentum into the 6 p.m. contest against the Eagles.
"We want to get back on track and in the right direction before conference," said GCU coach Kris Naber.
The Antelopes earned a come-from-behind 3-1 win Tuesday by getting contributions from multiple players.
Sophomore outside hitter
Erica Ehlo (Spokane, WA, Lewis and Clark) had 12 kills and 14 digs. Freshman outside hitter
Kaitlynn Ausmus (Glendale, AZ, Deer Valley) had 14 kills, a .367 hitting percentage, two service aces and seven digs. Junior libero
Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope) had 26 digs. Sophomore setter
Kristen Preach (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) had five kills, a .400 hitting percentage, 43 assists, four service aces and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter
Megan Toth (Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia) had nine kills and two block assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Sara Bowden (Tempe, AZ, Corona del Sol) had 10 digs. Junior hitter
Stephanie McBride (Newbury Park, CA, Newbury Park) had seven kills, including two in the match's final three points and hit .636. Sophomore middle hitter
Shelby Taylor (Phoenix, AZ, Christian) had a team-high three block assists.
Durbin has 199 digs on the season and 1,313 for her career. She is only 32 digs away from the school's all-time record of 1,345 held by Amber LaTarte (1996-99).
GCU has won four straight against Embry-Riddle and own a 14-1 record in the all-time series.
Embry-Riddle, an NAIA school, is 2-5 on the season.
GCU begins conference play on the road Sept. 21 at Notre Dame de Namur (Belmont, Calif.). It is the first of four road contests against teams in the San Francisco area. GCU will take on Academy of Art (San Francisco) Sept. 22 and Sept. 24 and finish the trip Sept. 25 with another match against Notre Dame de Namur.
