COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Grand Canyon dropped a five-set match to Lees-McRae in the first of two Friday contests in the Marriott Mountain Lion Invitational at Gallogly Events Center at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
GCU will play Fort Lewis at 3:30 p.m. Phoenix time.
GCU (2-4) lost 3-2. After taking the first two sets 25-20, 25-21, it lost 25-17, 26-24, 15-13.
Sophomore outside hitter
Sara Bowden (Tempe, AZ, Corona del Sol), in her first season at Grand Canyon after transferring from Northern Arizona, had her best match of the season with 20 kills, 12 digs and two service aces.
Junior libero
Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope) had 23 digs and moved up two spots to second on the school's all-time digs list. She has 1,238, surpassing both Ashley Handley (2003-06, 1,216) and JoDee Boyer (1992-95, 1,226). Amber LaTarte (1996-99) is the all-time leader with 1,345.

Kristen Preach (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) finished with 39 assists. Junior
Stephanie McBride (Newbury Park, CA, Newbury Park) and freshman
Kaitlynn Ausmus (Glendale, AZ, Deer Valley)had nine kills each. Ausmus had a .368 attack percentage. Sophomore
Shelby Taylor (Phoenix, AZ, Christian) had three block assists and one solo block.
Grand Canyon will play two more matches Saturday before returning for a 6 p.m. home contest Tuesday at Antelope Gymnasium against Southwestern Bible College.
