Three recent high school grads and an NAIA transfer round out the recruiting class for the Grand Canyon University women's volleyball program.
Incoming freshmen Jessica Posse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga), Jackie Luallen (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) and Megan Davis (Mesa, Ariz./Westwood), all come from teams that won 20 or more matches last fall, while Stephanie McBride (Newbury Park, Calif.) will be a junior and was a starter at The Master's College in California.
Posse, a 5-7 setter, comes from a prep team that went 28-5. She averaged 11.1 assists (1,078 total) and 2.3 digs (221).
Luallen, a 5-6 libero, had 253 digs (5.9 per game) for a 21-9 team.
Davis comes from one of Arizona's top high school programs. She is 5-9 and will be a right-side hitter and defensive specialist for the Antelopes. She was a second team All-5A East Valley Region choice and had 283 kills (2.8 per game) for the 21-14 Warriors.
McBride, a 5-11 middle/outside hitter, had 188 kills (1.88), 100 digs (1.04), tied for her team high with nine solo blocks and added 44 total blocks and 26 service aces in 2009.
The quartet joins five other newcomers, middle hitter Kristen Johannsen (Phoenix, Ariz./Valley Christian) and outside hitters Sara Bowden (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol (N. Ariz.), Carly Edington (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial), Kaitlynn Ausmus (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) and Brooke Blomenkamp (Gering, Neb./Gering (Western Nebraska CC) and 10 returnees for the 2010 season.
GCU opens its season with the annual Alumni Game 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Antelope Gymnasium. The regular season starts Sept. 3 at the Sonoma State Tournament against CSU Stanislaus. The home portion of the regular season gets underway Sept. 7 against Western New Mexico. First serve will come at 6 p.m.
