Grand Canyon University has added two more student-athletes to the 2010-11 women's volleyball recruiting class.
Junior college outside hitter
Brooke Blomenkamp (Gering, Neb./Gering/Western Nebraska CC) and local prep standout middle blocker
Kristen Johannsen (Chandler, Ariz./Valley Christian) will join prep outside hitters
Kaitlyn Ausmus (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) and
Carly Edington (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial), as well as, Division I transfer
Sara Bowden (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol/NAU), who signed in November.
Both Blomenkamp and Johannsen come from very successful programs, a focal point in head coach Kris Naber's recruiting.
"We wanted to recruit girls from winning programs," said Naber, whose club went 21-8 in 2009 and finished the season on a nine-game winning streak. "Both have solid reputations and have had success."
The 5-foot, 9-inch Blomenkamp played at Western Nebraska Community College where the team combined to go 101-8 over two seasons. The program has won 11 straight region championships. She was a Runza Cougar Athlete of the Week and an honorable mention all-conference performer in 2009.
Johannsen, 5-11, was on the all-state tournament team in 2008 and 2009. Her Valley Christian team won the 2009 state title and three straight region championships. Johannsen made the
East Valley Tribune 5A-1A All-State team.
