Grand Canyon earned a trip to the fifth-place contest at the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Championship by sweeping Dominican University of California, 5-0, yesterday at the Paseo Racquet Club in Glendale.
Junior Ali Brackey (Sahuarita, AZ/Sahuarita) swept No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0, after teaming up with senior Many Prudhomme (Glendale, AZ/Deer Valley) for an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles. Prudhomme also claimed No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Juniors Cecilia Vergnet (La Colle sur Loup, France) and Stephanie Haldeman (Peoria, AZ/Centennial) earned an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Kaila Knopf (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) and junior Stefanie Griffin (Scottsdale, AZ/Pinnacle) were victorious 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
The No. 4-seed Antelopes (13-12) will face No. 7-seed Academy of Art (9-13) at 2 p.m. today.
