GCU faces Top 15 teams rest of the way
As he prepared to get on the team bus headed to Los Angeles, Grand Canyon University men's volleyball coach Chad Speer summed up the progress of his second-year program.
"We've started beating the teams we're supposed to beat. Our next step is to beat someone we're not supposed to," said Speer, whose team has jumped from a four-win first season in 2009 to 14 victories so far this campaign.
Speer and the Antelopes will get plenty of opportunities to pull off an upset as their final six regular season contests are all against nationally-ranked programs.
It begins Wednesday at No. 7 UCLA. On Thursday, the Antelopes take on USC, tied for No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
In its final Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association matches at Antelope Gym, GCU takes on No. 12 and MIVA leader Loyola-Chicago April 1-2.
To wrap up the regular season, Grand Canyon will visit No. 15 Lewis April 16-17. The MIVA tournament begins April 24.
