GCU advances to NCAA West Region

With Dixie State's 78-66 loss at Notre Dame de Namur Friday, Grand Canyon claimed, outright, its third straight Pacific West Conference championship, and, for the first time in the PacWest, a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
GCU had clinched a share of the title with a 78-56 win over Notre Dame de Namur Feb. 13.
It is the Lady Lopes fourth postseason trip and third trip to the NCAA.
In 2004, GCU lost to CSU Bakersfield in the first round at Seattle Pacific. In 1997, it lost to CSU Bakersfield at Bakersfield.
In 1989, GCU qualified for the NAIA District VII Tournament and advanced to the second round, beating Western New Mexico and losing to Fresno Pacific.
The NCAA West Region will take place in mid-March likely at one of three different sites, Seattle Pacific, UC San Diego or Alaska-Anchorage.
GCU finishes its regular season March 5-6 at Dixie State.
