Grand Canyon rallied from a 24-point first half deficit, but didn't have enough to get over the hump, suffering its first Pacific West Conference loss of the season.
The Lopes (15-7, 8-1) dropped an 84-67 decision to Hawai'i Pacific at Antelope Gym Wednesday.
GCU got within six in the second half before falling for the first time in 11 games and for the first time on its home floor.
It still holds a two-game lead in the loss column with only three conference games remaining. The Lopes play host to Notre Dame de Namur at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
"Credit (HPU coach) Jeff Harada and his basketball team," said GCU coach Trent May.
After hitting only three of its first 22 shots, GCU fell behind 31-7. HPU went on a 25-0 run after trailing 7-6.
GCU battled back to get within six, 39-33, with still 17 minutes to go, but didn't have enough to complete the comeback against the Sea Warriors.
Stacy Haddow (pictured) led the Lopes with 23 points. Erin Murphy had 11 rebounds.
Hawai'i Pacific got 24 points each from freshmen Paris Gravely and Mana Hopkins.
"We wanted to win tonight. We just didn't do some things in some areas we needed to," added May.
The Lopes played without guards Rosalyn Nelson, the league leader in assists and steals, and Marnee Overton. Both are out with injuries.
