After helping lead the Lady Lopes to a successful road trip in Hawaii, sophomore guard Samantha Murphy was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for games played Feb. 2-8.
It is the fourth time this season a Grand Canyon player has been named. The other three all went to junior guard Rosalyn Nelson.
Murphy and Co. were 3-0 during the stretch of games and the Phoenix Xavier College Prep grad averaged 22.3 points, six assists and 3.3 streals for the trio of victories.
Junior Stacy Haddow, who averaged 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and led the conference in 3-pointers made per game (4.3) was selected to the weekly Top 10 honor roll.
GCU has won 11 straight games and have a three-game lead with four remaining in the PacWest Conference. A title would be its third straight. This time, though, a championship would guarantee the program's first bid into the NCAA Tournament's west regional.
The Lopes can clinch a tie for the title with a win at home Wednesday against Hawai'i Pacific. With a win Wednesday and a victory Friday over Notre Dame de Namur, also at Antelope Gym, the team secures the championship and bid.
Grand Canyon is 7-0 at home this season and has won 15 of its last 16 home games.
