Grand Canyon junior center Kia Gibson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash./Lakeside/N. Idaho) has been named the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week.
Gibson helped lead GCU to a pair of victories by shooting a PacWest-best 76.2 percent (16-for-21) from the field. She was third in the league in scoring averaging 20 points per game. She added four rebounds per contest for games played Jan. 11-17.
It is the fourth Player of the Week award earned by the 'Lopes this season.
Junior guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) won the award Nov. 23 and Nov. 30.
Murphy was named to this week's PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll. She averaged 17 points and 2.5 steals per game. She shot 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the field, 80 percent (4-for-5) from 3-point range and 85.7 percent (6-for-7) from the free-throw line.
GCU finishes its three-game Bay Area road trip tonight at Academy of Art (6:30 p.m.). The 'Lopes come home to host Notre Dame de Namur 5 p.m. Saturday at Antelope Gym.
The three-time defending conference champions are currently 4-0 in the league and tied for first place with Hawai'i Pacific.
