Murphy selected second team all-region

Grand Canyon sophomore guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) was named second team Daktronics NCAA Division II All-West Region by the sports information directors at the region's schools that sponsor women's basketball.
The region includes teams which compete in the Pacific West Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association and Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Murphy is averaging 19.1 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.4 steals for the PacWest champion, NCAA-bound Antelopes. Murphy has scored 30 points or more four times this season including a career-high 33 with a school-record tying 16 made free throws against NDNU on Feb. 14.
UC San Diego's Michelle Osier was named player of the year and Alaska-Anchorage coach Tim Mose was named coach of the year.
Two other PacWest players were selected. BYU-Hawaii's Latoya Wily was named to the first team. NDNU's Britni Rathke joined Murphy on the second team.
Grand Canyon (16-11) is the No. 8 seed in the NCAA West Region and will play at No. 1 seed Seattle Pacific Friday at 7:30 p.m.
