LAIE, Hawai'i -- Riding the momentum of an emotion win over league-leader Hawai'i Pacific on Sunday, Grand Canyon University won its second straight game on its four-game Hawai'i trip with a 75-58 victory over BYU-Hawai'i at George Q. Cannon Activities Center Tuesday.
With the win head coach Trent May tied Julie Hanks as the all-time winningest coach in school history.
In two plus seasons, May is 49-29. Hanks went 49-54 in four seasons. May's next attempt to become the sole leader will be Thursday at Chaminade.
May won't be the only Antelope nearing an all-time mark Thursday. Junior guard
Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) led all scorers with 24 against BYU-Hawai'i and is now only 23 points away from tying Jennifer Cobb as the program's all-time leading scorer.
Cobb, from 2002-07, scored 1,281 points. Murphy is currently at 1,258.
Down 8-7 in the first half, GCU went on a 9-0 run. Junior center

Katie Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz./Deer Valley/SMCC) added two points and Murphy hit a 3-pointer for a 16-8 lead.
When Murphy hit a trey at the 7:44 mark of the first half, the lead grew to 10, 25-15, and GCU remained a double-figure leader the rest of the way.
The 'Lopes shot 52.2 percent from the field and held BYU-H to only 30.5 percent.
"We had a good attitude and good focus," said May of Tuesday's win that upped his team to 14-7 on the season and 8-2 in the Pacific West Conference.
GCU trails league-leader Hawai'i Pacific (14-5, 10-1), which it defeated on a Murphy buzzer-beater Sunday, by one and one-half games.
Senior
Stacy Haddow (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) had eight points and eight rebounds in the win. Johnson and senior
Shareka Purnell (Dale City, Va./C.D. Hylton/UALR) also had eight points apiece. Senior
Ashley Hardin (Phoenix, Ariz./Marcos de Niza/N. Arizona) grabbed six rebounds. Murphy contributed three assists and two steals. Purnell and junior
Kristi Girdley (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) also had three assists.
Haddow needs 10 points to tie Kelly McRee for fourth on the school's all-time scoring list. McRee scored 894 points from 2003-05. Haddow has 884.
BYU-Hawai'i dropped to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in the PacWest.
GCU improved to 6-1 on the road and 13-1 all-time on its Hawai'i swing.
Game time against Chaminade (1-16, 0-9) Thursday is 8:30 p.m. Phoenix time.
With two wins over the Seasiders this season, GCU leads the all-time series 9-1.
