Grand Canyon fell to 10-15 overall and 5-8 in Pacific West Conference with a 3-0 loss to BYU-Hawai'i (11-6, 8-2) at George Q. Cannon Activities Center in Laie, Hawai'i Monday.
GCU lost by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-22.
Sophomore middle hitter
Shelby Taylor (Phoenix, AZ, Christian) led in kills with eight. Freshman outside hitter
Kaitlynn Ausmus (Glendale, AZ, Deer Valley) had six, while senior middle hitter
Tommyka Henry (Phoenix, AZ, Alhambra, Mesa Community College) and sophomore outside hitter
Erica Ehlo (Spokane, WA, Lewis and Clark) each had five.
Sophomore setter
Kristen Preach (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) had 25 assists, two block assists and two kills. Junior libero
Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope) had 19 digs.
GCU led 9-8 in the first set before the Seasiders went on an 8-2 run. In the second set, the score was deadlocked at 13, when the hosts scored the next six points.
The Antelopes put up a rally of their own in the third set, but came up a little short. Down 23-18, the 'Lopes scored the next three points. Preach had a kill and service ace and Ehlo added a kill. Another Ehlo kill staved off the first match point, 24-22, but the Seasiders ended it on the next play.
The teams meet again Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. Phoenix time. The match is scheduled to be on BYU TV.
