Grand Canyon got a grittier effort from visiting Hawaii Pacific Thursday night, but the host Antelopes emerged winners again. GCU beat HPU 86-72 in Antelope Gym.
The win improved Grand Canyon's overall mark to 6-7 and league record to 2-0. Hawaii Pacific fell to 0-11, 0-2 in the PacWest.
Rosalyn Nelson scored 28 points, had 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists as Grand Canyon remained unbeaten in PacWest play. Samantha Murphy (pictured) finished with 21 points and two steals. Jacque Stevens added 17 points, four assists and two blocks.
Nelson sank 13 of 16 free throws and went 7 of 16 from the field. Murphy hit 6 of 6 free throws and 6 of 14 field goals. GCU went 27 of 61 from the floor.
Hawaii Pacific picked up 21 points from Karras Blate, and 18 from Ashley Jenkins. Angela Spence had 16.
Sara Dalgliesh had eight rebounds for the Antelopes, which host BYU-Hawaii at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
