ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The road hasn't been good to the Grand Canyon University women's volleyball team.
The Antelopes dropped their fifth straight road game and fifth straight Pacific West Conference contest at Dixie State College Friday.
GCU (13-14, 6-7) lost 3-0 by set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-20.
Junior Jenna Skadeland (pictured) had eight kills, a .316 hitting average and four block assists.
The Lopes trailed the entire first and second set. They were behind 6-3 in the third and began rallying after a Skadeland kill.
Off sophomore Brooke Baker's serve, GCU scored three straight to take a 7-6 advantage. Skadeland and sophomore Megan Toth combined for a block and Baker had an ace.
The Antelopes lost the lead, but regained it on a pair of blocks. Skadeland had her hands on both, sharing swats with junior Heather Baron and sophomore Katie Meyers. A Skadeland kill followed to give GCU an 11-9 lead. The lead got as big as 16-12 and as late as 17-16, but DSC came on strong to finish the match.
On Wednesday, GCU will play its final home game against Embry Riddle. First serve is 7 p.m. It's Senior Night and the Lopes will honor lone senior Shauna Niemann.
