For the first time since 1999, GCU is 5-0 as it swept through the Holiday Inn Oredigger Classic at Colorado School of Mines.
Monday at 7 p.m. against earby Southwestern College, GCU tries for 6-0, which would be the best start under Naber.
The program's best start is 8-0 in 1991.
GCU is 3-0 all-time against Southwestern (located at 2625 E. Cactus Road, Phoenix), including a win last season at Southwestern (members of the NAIA and NCCAA).
The Lopes come in with three players among the leaders in the PacWest Conference. Freshman Caelen Hiller is second in kills (4.1) and points (4.6). Sophomore libero Laurann Durbin (pictured) is second in digs (4.55) and senior middle hitter Jenna Skadeland is third in blocks (1.05).
The Eagles are coached by Amanda (Forrest) Burgmann. She is a former GCU volleyball standout and one of only five Lopes to have 1,000 kills. Burgmann ranks fourth with 1,008. She is third all-time in block assists and seventh in total blocks. An outstanding student, too, she is a former a winner of the Roland Beck Scholar Athlete award.
