It was the Antelopes (8-4, 0-2) second loss in as many nights to the Red Storm, both by 3-1 counts. GCU lost by set scores 25-20, 27-29, 25-23, 25-19.
Freshman Caelen Hiller (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) had 19 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Freshman setter Kristen Preach (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) had 55 assists and four block assists.
Sophomore Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) had 26 digs. Freshman Erica Ehlo (pictured, Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark) had 11 digs and nine kills.
Shelby Taylor (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian) and Jenna Skadeland (Williston, N.D./Williston) had nine kills. Skadeland added seven block assists. Senior Whitney Estes (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) added eight kills.
After tying the first set, 19-19, GCU was outscored 6-1 the rest of the game. In the second, the Lopes evened the match 1-1 by finishing with a Hiller kill and block by Preach and Skadeland.
The Lopes led 21-20 in the third and were knotted at 23-23 when the Red Storm tallied the final two points.
GCU, after playing its first 12 matches on the road, opens the home season against Embry-Riddle 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Antelope Gymnasium.
