Murphy named to all-district academic team

Grand Canyon sophomore guard Samantha Murphy was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team, released Thursday.
Murphy, who is carrying a 3.9 grade-point average with a major in Physical Therapy, was selected to the District VIII College Division first team.
On the floor, the Phoenix native and Xavier College Prep grad, is averaging a team-best 18 points per game. She is also tops in field goal percentage (.553), 3-point field goal percentage (.452), free throw percentage (.854) and second in steals (3.2).
She is coming off a career-tying 30-point performance in a victory over Hawai'i Pacific Tuesday. In that game, she also set a career-high for assists with nine.
Murphy is now eligible for inclusion on the CoSida Academic All-America ballot.
