For the second straight week, Grand Canyon sophomore guard Samantha Murphy was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.
Murphy was selected for games played Feb. 9-15. During that period she averaged 22.7 points, six rebounds, 4.7 assists and 4.3 steals. She led the PacWest in scoring and steal average for the week, while ranking fourth in assists per game and 12th in rebounding.
She helped lead the team to clinching a share of the league title.
At the free-throw line, Murphy hit 25-of-26 for 96.2 percent. In an 84-80 non-conference loss to Notre Dame de Namur Saturday, she had a career-high 33 points and tied a school record with 16 free-throws in a game. The previous night, a conference win over NDNU, Murphy had her first career double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds.
It is the fifth time this season a Lady Lope player has won the league's top weekly individual honor. Rosalyn Nelson was named player of the week Nov. 24, Jan. 5 and Jan. 26 to go with Murphy's Feb. 9 and Feb. 16 selections.
GCU can clinch an NCAA tournament bid and outright league title for the third straight year on Feb. 23 when it plays host to BYU-Hawaii at Antelope Gym.
