'Lopes Win Season Finale

It was Senior Day in more ways than one for the Grand Canyon University women's soccer team today. It was the last game of the 2009 season for the 'Lopes, who honored their 10 seniors at halftime. It also was a game in which all four goals were scored by seniors as GCU defeated Academy of Art University, 4-1, at the GCU Soccer Field.
Senior midfielder Nichole Elias (Tucson, AZ/Saguaro) scored at 44:29 and 46:51 on passes from senior midfielder/forward Kaylen Jackson (Tucson, AZ/Amphitheater) and senior defender Jessica Schartz (Glendale, AZ/Paradise Valley), respectively, senior forward Aislinn Finfrock (Glendale, AZ/Independence) connected off a ball from junior midfielder Kelcee Newell (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) at 65:37, and Jackson found the back of the net on an unassisted goal at 66:30.
The 'Lopes finished the season 9-9-2, 6-6-2 in the Pacific West Conference. The Urban Knights were 3-15-2, 3-9-2.
GCU had 19 shots in the game, 11 of them on goal, while AAU had a total of four shots, all on goal.
'Lopes junior goalkeeper Mileena Buchei (Stansbury, UT/Grantsville) had three saves.
The Urban Knights' goal, at 21:23, was scored by Solveig Barnes, who started most of her teams in goal this season.
