We Are the Champions!
The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team captured its third Pacific West Conference championship in the past four years today as it dominated Academy of Art University, 5-0, at the GCU Soccer Field.
Freshman forward Kyle Ciliento (pictured, Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle), the PacWest's leader in goals, goals per game, points, points per game, shots and shots per game, scored his 21st, 22nd and 23rd goals of the season. Senior defender/midfielder Jesse Baker (Lakeside, AZ/Blue Ridge), who assisted on Ciliento's first goal and was honored at halftime along with defender/midfielder Joshua Ademosu (London, England/Cardinal Pole), headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder Johnny Vieira (Amparo, Brazil), and freshman midfielder/forward A.J. Jaramillo (Phoenix, AZ/St. Mary's) scored on a deflection.
Junior goalkeeper Ben Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia) recorded his GCU single-season record 12th shutout of the season. He also broke the school record for lowest goals-against average in a season.
