Stapleton wins 200th as Ford hits walkoff HR to extend 6-game streak

Tate Ford made Dave Stapleton's day a historic one.

Ford (pictured) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh, ensuring Grand Canyon's eighth-year coach of his 200th career victory in a 10-9 win over Dixie State Thursday at Brazell Stadium. The win was GCU's sixth straight.

"These guys do it," Stapleton said. "It just happens to come by my name."

Grand Canyon lost the second game of the doubleheader 9-5.

Ford went 3 for 3 with a double and homer, driving in three runs as he raised his batting average by over 150 percentage points when he entered the four-game series, which concludes with Friday's noon game. He is hitting .306.
