Antelopes open season at home Friday night

Grand Canyon opens the 2008 baseball season at home 7 p.m. Friday night against Mesa State.
Friday's opening day will begin a four-game homestand at Brazell Stadium for the Antelopes. GCU, which finished 31-21 last season, will also play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and conclude the series with Mesa State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The Lopes hit .330 as a team last year with 27 home runs. Opponents batted .290 with 29 homers. GCU's pitching staff had a .486 earned run average with 326 strikeouts in 407 2/3 innings.
With new personnel pegged to fill a lot of positions this year, the 2008 season signals a new start to a storied program.
Grand Canyon boasts one of the tougher NCAA Division II schedules in the West Region as well as the nation.
