Brian Stith, a two-time All-American and NCAA finalist, is in his second season as an assistant coach for the GCU wrestling program in 2015-16.
Stith spent the previous seven seasons coaching at Arizona State where he helped produce two Division I national champions, along with five All-Americans. He helped guide the Sun Devils to a sixth-place team finish at the 2011 Division I Championships.
When Stith was hired, GCU coach Jon Sioredas said: "The experience coach Stith brings to Grand Canyon is immeasurable. Having wrestled on ESPN Prime Time Saturday night in front of millions of people and having coached a top-10, Division I program is huge in getting our guys to buy into what is needed to be done.”
Stith, who graduated from Arizona State in 2007, was a two-time All-American, placing sixth at the 2005 NCAA Championships before placing as the national runner-up in 2006. He also was a two-time Pac-10 Conference champion, winning his crowns in 2005 and 2007 and placing second in 2006.
During his time as a competitor, the Sun Devils captured two Pac-10 titles (2005 and 2006) and in 2005, he was named outstanding wrestler of the Pac-10 Tournament. Additionally, Stith recorded a pair of national top-15 finishes at the NCAA meet, placing 13th in 2005 and sixth in 2006.
Following an outstanding college career, Stith competed in postgrad competition and climbed to No. 3 on the Olympic ladder. He placed second in two international tournaments, including the Dave Shultz International and the New York Athletic Club International. He also finished third in the U.S. Open.
A native of Hampton, Va., Stith was a Virginia High School state champion, FILA Cadet national champion, Beast of the East champion, and High School Senior national champion.
