Sean Pryor joined the GCU Athletics staff in February 2020 and currently serves as the academic coordinator for the beach volleyball, men’s golf, and women’s golf programs with the Office of Student-Athlete Development.
Pryor comes to GCU with a unique blend of Division I coaching experience as well as student-athlete support experience. He has 11 years of experience as a college basketball coach and more in camps, high school and club basketball.
Pryor can also related to student-athletes through his own playing experience. He played basketball at Oregon State from 1995 to 1998 including two years as a team captain. He was a representative on the Pac-10 Student-Athlete Advisory Counsel. His basketball journey continued into the professional ranks, playing in both France and Puerto Rico.
Upon completion of his playing career, Pryor entered the corporate marketing world for three years, working for Encore Nationwide and supporting clients including HP, Intel, Royal Caribbean, US Gymnastics and more.
He worked in AAU and high school basketball before accepting his first collegiate position at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri, as an associate head coach and admissions counselor. After four years in that position, he moved to the Division I level at GCU's current WAC foe Chicago State. He spent six seasons as an assistant with the Cougars, helping run the program both on and off the court.
After one season at New Mexico Highlands as its associate head coach in 2016-17, Pryor transitioned from coaching to student-athlete development. He spent two and a half years at Eastern Michigan as an athletic academic specialist. While with the university, he was the coordinator and advisor for baseball, women's volleyball, women's gymnastics, women's swimming and men's and women's track and field. He also helped manage 15-20 at-risk student-athletes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. In the fall of 2019, Pryor helped a pair of programs post their highest GPAs in team history: baseball (3.52) and women's gymnastics (3.78).
In addition to the positions he's held, Pryor has also been a member of the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals, and the Black Coaches Association.
Pryor graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Education from Oregon State in 1998.
