Gabe Bourland was named Grand Canyon's director of sports performance in 2017 after serving as a performance athletics specialist for the previous three years. Bourland oversees GCU's sports performance department. At GCU previously, Bourland served the men's basketball, baseball, golf and men's volleyball teams.
Prior to joining the Performance Athletics staff, Bourland served as the assistant coordinator of sports science and performance for the Seattle Mariners professional baseball organization. Bourland served the organization by helping oversee the 200-plus player minor league system in the areas of performance training, state-of-the-art data collection and analysis of performance measures, injury prevention measures and offseason training, as well as serving the rehabilitating athletes in performance at the Mariner Spring Training Facility. Bourland spent eight years with the Mariners organization.
Bourland graduated with his bachelor's degree from Arizona State and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and also recognized as a registered strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Also through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, he is recognized as a corrective exercise specialist.
Bourland resides in the Valley with wife Carly and son Jack.
