Grand Canyon reversed its defensive issues to rout Northern Illinois 88-59 on Monday night with the visiting Huskies shooting 34.7% from the field and committing 21 turnovers at Global Credit Union Arena.
Coming off a loss in which GCU allowed 90 points, the Lopes (2-1) locked down Northern Illinois to open a double-digit lead in the first half before blowing open the game to with the second-half lead growing to as much as 35 points.

GCU graduate power forward
Wilhelm Breidenbach set a career scoring high with a game-high 16 points in just 11 minutes off the bench. The Lopes outscored the Huskies by 27 points in Breidenbach's 11 minutes on the floor.
The 6-foot-10 Washington transfer made 6 of 7 shots from the field, including 1 of 2 from 3-point range. He also hit all three of his free throws on GCU's 19-for-20 free throw shooting night and added four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.

GCU held Northern Illinois without a field for an 8-minute, 50-second stretch of the first half, opening the lead to 36-19 during that time.
