Grand Canyon basketball alumnus Asbjørn Midtgaard is in his third season on staff in 2025-26, joining the program in January 2024 as a graduate assistant.
Midtgaard was a member of head coach Bryce Drew's first team at GCU, helping lead the Lopes to their first NCAA tournament appearance at the Division I level. Midtgaard was named the 2021 WAC Newcomer of the Year, a first-team All-WAC honoree, a All-WAC defensive team honoree, an NABC All-District second-team selection and a WAC All-Tournament team pick in his one season with the Lopes.
A Wichita State transfer, Midtgaard led GCU in scoring at 14.2 points per game, rebounds at 9.7 per game and blocks at 1.25 per game. He led the nation with a 70.7% field-goal percentage, 5.2% higher than the nearest player in Ohio's Dwight Wilson. He bested Bryan Lee's 69.4% shooting in 2005-06 for the top mark in program history.
Midtgaard earned an NBA Summer League invite from the Orlando Magic in the summer following his college career. His professional basketball career took him overseas where he played his first season in Belgium, second season in Germany and third season back in Belgium. A knee injury cut his third professional season short in October of 2023, and he opted to return to Phoenix and join GCU's coaching staff.
Midtgaard married his wife, Madison, in the summer of 2021.
