Rock Hudgens is in his second season as the Grand Canyon baseball program's director of analytics and operations after joining the staff in August 2020.
Hudgens first season at GCU was immediately memorable, as the Lopes won their first WAC Tournament Championship to advance to the Division I NCAA Tournament for the first time.
"Rock has both a playing background and experience in professional baseball operations with the Houston Astros," Stankiewicz said. "He is very talented in the area of analytics, and we feel like he will help GCU Baseball move forward in data and analytics for our players. As a player, Rock was a leader on and off the field and we are excited to see him do the same in our program."
A native of Scottsdale, Hudgens was a member of the baseball team at nearby Arizona Christian University. He spent the summer of 2017 working in clubhouse operations for the Houston Astros.
"It's an honor to work with the caliber of excellence that Coach Stankiewicz brings to the table," Hudgens said. "I see GCU Baseball as my new home. I am eager to work alongside the coaching staff and serve our players to bring a championship to GCU this year."
Hudgens has a background in software engineering and coding while most recently working with web interfaces and user experience.
With the rise of analytics in baseball, Hudgens oversees the program's use and development through data. He also oversees the day-to-day operations of the program including scheduling, travel and finances.
Hudgens graduated from Arizona Christian with a degree in Business Administration and minors in Management and Biblical Studies. While at the school, he was an active member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, leadership council and YoungLife.
