Appeared in 17 games and started 9 of them • fourth on team in innings pitched (56.1) • recorded a 5.91 ERA and struck out 41 batters • made GCU debut vs. Bradley on Feb. 15, getting the start and tossing 5.0 innings of the Lopes' 30-7 win • tossed a season-high 8.0 innings, allowing just one earned run, in a defeat of Cal Poly on Feb. 22 • earned first career saves in back-to-back appearances (April 26 at Utah Valley, April 29 at No. 21 Texas Tech) • winning pitcher in GCU's WAC-clinching season finale at Sacramento State on May 16 after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings.

Spent two seasons at Glendale Community College, making 13 appearances during his sophomore campaign in 2014 • recorded 63 strikeouts while issuing just 21 walks in 92.0 innings and sporting a 2.74 ERA en route to being named Second Team All-Region • as a freshman for the Gauchos, Brendel tossed 37.1 innings and collected 28 strikeouts in 16 appearances.
