Ranked as one of the top recruits in Louisiana as a high school senior, Dominic Magee joined the Lopes for the 2015-16 campaign. He originally committed to Memphis and spent the first semester of the 2014-15 season with the Tigers as a redshrit before deciding to transfer.
In the Classroom Magee is working toward a bachelor's degree in sports management at Grand Canyon.
High School Magee averaged 22.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.1 assist per game for Helen Cox High School as a senior in 2013-14. He went on to earn District 8-5A MVP honors and was a first-team all-class 5A honoree as well.
He originally chose Memphis after receiving offers from more than a dozen schools, including UCLA and Arizona. The four major recruiting services all ranked him among the top 75 players in the country, including one service having him in the top 30. He was listed as the second-highest ranked recruit in the state of Louisiana as a senior.
Magee finished 2013-14 as the second-leading scorer among the New Orleans Metro Area Large Schools (Classes 5A/4A) and was rated the No. 2 player in The Times Picayune Terrific 20 ranking for 2014. He was the only player from Louisiana nominated for the 2014 McDonald’s All-America Game after he helped the Cougars to a 24-7 overall record. His top scoring games consisted of 36 points vs. Chalmette, 36 points against Hahnville, 34 points against John Ehret, and 29 points vs. Bonnabel.
Prior to the 2013-14 season, Magee ranked as the No. 2 player in The Times-Picayune Super 16 and was rated a four-star guard by ESPN.com and Rivals.com. At his position, Magee was rated one of the nation’s top point guards by Scout.com (No. 26) and 247sports.com (No. 15) …
In summer of 2013, Magee attended basketball camps in New Jersey (hosted by Brooklyn Nets star Deron Williams) and Las Vegas (hosted by Miami Heat star LeBron James). He also participated in the Reebok Breakout Camp All-Stars event at the famous Rucker Park in Harlem, N.Y.
Despite battling injuries in 2012-13. he was named to the all-district 9-4A team after leading Helen Cox High School to the state playoffs for the first time since 2009. The team finished with an 18-11 record. He then played summer AAU basketball with the Louisiana Future program.
