Grand Canyon heads to Reno, Nevada, for its final regular-season series. The Lopes will be playing with high stakes, looking to qualify for a spot in the six-team Mountain West Championship that is played in Mesa next week.
All three games will stream on
Mountain West Network.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- CONFERENCE RACE: GCU is fighting in the race for the conference tournament, where the Mountain West's top six teams qualify. GCU can still land either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed based on its results and outcomes involving UNLV (vs. San Diego State) and San José State (vs. Fresno State). The Lopes earn the No. 5 seed by sweeping their final three games. GCU can claim the No. 6 seed with two wins if UNLV loses twice and San José State loses at least once, or with one win if UNLV loses all three games and San José State loses at least twice.
- KEEP THE OFFENSE HUMMING: The Lopes are coming off a series win against New Mexico where they tallied double-digit hits in all three games and hit over .300 as a team in each game. It's the first time this season that the Lopes have hit over .300 in three straight games.
- RETURN TO RENO: GCU is returning to Reno for the first time since 2023, where the Lopes and Wolf Pack met twice on a three-team weekend that also included Long Beach State. The Lopes won both meetings, outscoring the Wolf Pack 17-2 and outhitting it 27-9. GCU also opened the 2022 season at home against Nevada in front of 5,261 fans which remains the third-largest crowd in GCU Ballpark history.
SCOUTING NEVADA
Nevada enters the final weekend having already clinched its spot in next week's MW Championship. Nevada is 23-24 overall and 12-9 in MW play, putting it in the tournament field despite a recent seven-game skid that included a road sweep at San Diego State and three nonconference losses at USC. The Wolf Pack is trying to work its way back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021, when it made the most recent of its five regional appearances.
The season has come with a transition at the top after Jordan Getzelman was promoted to head coach in December, following Jake McKinley's move to the Seattle Mariners as a Major League field coordinator. Getzelman inherited a program coming off the 2025 MW regular-season championship and has kept Nevada in the upper half of the league race for much of his first season. In conference series play, the Wolf Pack swept Fresno State, took series from Washington State, San José State, New Mexico and UNLV, and dropped series to Air Force and San Diego State, giving Nevada five MW series wins entering its regular-season finale against GCU.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Pending the results of the weekend, GCU could be headed to the Mountain West Championship at Mesa's Sloan Park. The Lopes would be a No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the tournament, meaning they would open on Thursday in the Day 1 single-elimination portion of the bracket.
