EUGENE, Ore. – Grand Canyon began the first of two tournaments over a six-day span Monday, completing 36 holes of The Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.
GCU is in 13th place at 29 over par and trails 10th-place UTEP by six. No. 9 Illinois leads the field at 1 under, the only team to shoot under par on the tournament's first day.
Sophomore
Nixon Lauritzen leads the way for the Lopes at 4 over par, good for 29th place. Lauritzen shot a 1-under 70 in his first round, which included five birdies and three in a row on holes 5-7.
GCU freshman
Daniel Nilsson is three shots back of Lauritzen at 7 over in 44th place. Nilsson had four birdies in his second round, including three on the back nine over a five-hole stretch.
Lopes sophomore Måns Boje and junior teammate
Gavin O'Neill are tied for 67th at 10 over, while sophomore
Matthew Diehl is 83rd at 15 over.
Third- and final-round action begins Tuesday morning. GCU then heads to Stanford, California, and partakes Thursday through Saturday through the Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course.
